Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

What is the qualification?

The Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (which includes the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) Level 3) covers the health and safety knowledge required by employees or supervisors in vocational industries.

It also provides courses to upskill those already employed as supervisors to meet their legislative obligations as “persons in charge of a place of work”. The qualification can be used across a range of disciplines.

Graduates will be able to:
- play an active role in analysing and improving health and safety;
- supervise workplace health and safety;
- apply legislative requirements for health and safety;
- act as a Health and Safety Representative;
- undertake specialist hazard management; and
- advise of Maori perspectives of health and safety.


How long will it take to complete the Health and Safety course?

1 semester full-time, or part-time equivalent. Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with Waiariki’s Academic Regulations / view full entry requirements
