This Certificate and the embedded National Qualifications are designed to enable operators to develop specialist technical knowledge and skills in the solid wood manufacturing industry. The courses offered will develop their knowledge and technical competence.

The qualification is designed for operators who are working in an operational environment and have broad experience in a range of wood manufacturing operations. It will offer broad wood manufacturing knowledge and specialist technical skills to people in the industry or preparing to further enhance a career in wood manufacturing.

The advanced embedded qualifications have a common core that enhances understanding of cost factors and process improvement activities and a strand that is aligned with advanced skills in individual areas such as LVL and Plywood Manufacturing, Sawmilling, Timber Grading, Timber Treatment, Timber Drying.

This is seen as the ideal qualification for technical specialists in the industry

Start Date: Courses start ongoing.

Delivery: Each unit will be delivered as a stand alone course with the following outline...

  • One small assignment to be done before the first workshop.
  • One workshop of two days per unit, Rotorua. (Optional information provided. Attendance is not required to pass this course).
  • Practical projects to be completed within the workplace. The tutor will be available throughout via email and phone to offer guidance and support.
  • The Advanced Certificate can be achieved within one calendar year.

Operators who are team leaders, or who are responsible for technical matters beyond day to day production, will benefit from this new qualification.

Graduate Profile:

This programme prepares students for the following careers and/or employment opportunities:  various positions leading to supervisory & management roles within the wood manufacturing industry

Students may move onto further learning in the fields of National Certificate in Wood Manufacturing Advanced Technical Plant Operations and/or the National Diploma in Wood Manufacturing.
