With new insects and diseases being discovered in New Zealand every year, every forest owner should have staff qualified in Forest Health Surveillance.

Introductory Forest Health Course - Unit 5870 DKO forest health


27th – 29th October 2010

No prerequisites are required to attend this course. It can used as a stand-alone overview of forest health and biosecurity in New Zealand. It is also the introductory unit required to join the next cycle of courses for the National Certificate in Forest Health Surveillance for those who want to carry on with further study.

This course provides an introduction to forest health in New Zealand plantations. Topics include :

  • pests and diseases found in New Zealand plantations (Gum leaf skeletoniser Nun moth)
  • control methods
  • surveillance methods
  • overseas threats
  • an overview of biosecurity in New Zealand

 

It will be delivered at Waiariki’s main campus in Rotorua, and will include lecture presentations and a fieldtrip to observe forest health issues in local forests. The course fee is expected to be approx $600 per person, depending on the number attending.

This course will be specifically run for industry personal and will be of special interest to operational forestry supervisors and managers who wish to undertake professional development.
