19.06.2009 - Gasification (Part 2)

What is it used for?
After gasification has taken place the following products are created -

1. Chemicals and Fertilizers. Methanol is created. Methanol is used is formaldehyde (sport equipment and mdf plywood). Methanol can also be used as a substitute for ethanol (fuelling cars).

2. Hydrogen. Hydrogen is used for purification of gasoline and fuels. Hydrogen is increasingly replacing natural gas for use in manufacturing.

3. Transportation fuels. Gasification creates methanol which can be converted to a clean burning gas. NOTE - this is the method the gasification plant will use at the Waipa site. The methanol will be burnt to provide fuel/energy to power the kilns.

When we know more about how it works - we will let you know! Stay tuned for further updates.
