| 12 Forestry School staff compete against professional logging teams in a chainsaw skills relay sponsored by STIHL. |
On Saturday 12 staff from our school went over to Mystery Creek to compete against other professional logging teams in a chainsaw skills relay sponsored by STIHL.
We entered 2 x 5 man teams and performed very credibly for a first time effort. This was a great team building exercise for the teams and we also received a lot of great comments from the logging fraternity.
We also received fantastic free advertising by the commentator on the Public Address who, every time one of our teams raced (which was 8 times in total) was raving about Waiairki Institute of Technology being the foremost vocational forestry training establishment in the country.
It made our guys feel very proud and there were a lot of Field Day visitors who now know we are serious about Forestry Training!
It was a great day. Photos are now also posted in the gallery. There are some photos of Team ‘Mahi'. We also had Team ‘Tahi' (who were our top team with Brent Cannard, Tom Moengaroa, Richard Stringfellow, Mack Hudson, Sean Huntingdon and Dave Batterham.)
The School has been challenged to attend further events in the Manawatu and Northland regions also.
We will be back next year....
