A summation of the paper delievered by Dr Cris Brack
Doctor Cris Brack delivered a paper at the annual NZ Institute of Forestry held in Nelson.
Cris' paper was entitled "Robust Decisions in a Climate of Change: what should you do tomorrow if you do not know what will be happening in 30 years?"
Cris went on speak about the certainties and uncertainties of land owners and forest owners. Questions such as "What does the forest farmer expect his forest to look like in the future?"
The paper attempted to create a model of discussion around potential optimal land uses, the introduction of carbon markets.
Analysis of capital land values ($) were also tabled, with different scenario's being presented. Depending on what time cycle and rotation trees were planted created a wide number of results.
In summation the paper presented - "examines a system for determining robust decisions and quantifying the different aspects of risk that have the greatest impact on the outcome of the decisions that need to be made in the immediate future".
