Staff Profile

Keith Raymond  

 

Keith Raymond is Head of Department in Forest Management, supporting the teaching staff in the Diploma in Forest Management. With his background in forestry operations, harvesting research, planning and operations management he is well placed to lead the development of curriculum in various forest management programmes at the School of Forestry and Primary Industries.

Keith graduated in forestry at University of Canterbury in 1981 and worked in logging and forestry operations in Kinleith, Australia and Kaingaroa Forest in the 1980's before joining the Logging Industry Research Association in 1986 as a Harvesting Researcher where he undertook a variety of research projects, progressing to Programme Manager at LIRO in 1990. During his time with LIRO he spent 12 months on a research exchange with the Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada (FERIC) in Montreal. Keith joined Forestry Corporation of NZ as Harvest Planning Manager in 1993 before moving to the role of Clearfell Manager. He has since worked in harvesting systems development, sales and operations planning, supply chain management, log supply and operations management roles for Fletcher Challenge Forests, Tenon Limited, CHH Woodproducts and CHH Forests Ltd. Keith is a former Chairman of the Logging and Forest Industry Training Board and was a LIRO Board member. Keith also maintains a management consultancy where he fulfils the role of Harvesting and Logistics Theme Leader for Future Forests Research Ltd based in Rotorua.

Keith is married with three young adult children and is a keen recreational motorcyclist and rugby enthusiast, supporting the All Blacks at the Rugby World Cup in 2003 and 2007.
