Completed 16 x week Harvesting Course - Forest Training Centre Training Crew - Kaingaroa felling Old & transition Crop P. radiata

 

Silvicultural Supervisor - Juken Nissho Ltd - Masterton - supervising 9 x Silvicultural/Establishment operations - 1 year

 

Silvicultural Contractor - Pruning, Thinning , Planting and tree releasing - for Tasman Forest Company and also as an Independent Contractor working on Farm Woodlots

 

1992 - Travelled overseas - Worked with Badenoch Land Management,Alvie Estate - Kingussie(Highlands) - Scotland completing Forest Inventory (Sherwood Forest - yes Robin Hood country), Production Thinning/Harvesting, sawmilling and fencing

 

1993/1994 - completed Forestry Degree -Tampere University/Kuru Forestry School Finland - Work experience - MetsaTalo (equivalent of our MAF) carrying out Forest Inventory on Private Forests around Oulu - Northern Finland - also worked in harvesting operations during my stay at Kuru Forestry School (motor manual & mechanised harvesting operations)

Included 2 x visits to Russia including a field trip to view forest operations/management in the St Petersburg & Novgorod Regions - Western Russia

1 x field trip to Sweden to view Harvester/Forwarder manufacturers- Timberjack & various Forest Owners/operations 

1 x Ecological field trip to Norway - above Artic Circle to Alta Canyon & surrounds  

 

1996 - 2009 started teaching at Waiariki Institute of Technology final year of NZCF and National Diploma in Forestry (Forest Management) specialising and/or interests in Harvesting/Forest Engineering, Mapping/GIS/GPS/Remote Sensing & various elements of Forest Management - costing/scheduling etc..

 

Have travelled & studied through Scandinavia,UK,Central & Eastern Europe, Asia (China, Thailand, Indonesia) and the Pacific region
