“I could not have come this far without completing the National Diploma in Forestry” A solid testimonial from Todd Brady who is currently working as a Forest Engineer with Pan Pac Forests, a company with extensive forest holdings and a large processing plant in the Napier area. Todd has always enjoyed the outdoors and worked on farms for 11 years after he finished school. He joined forest harvesting crews and quickly worked his way up to a foreman’s position. After 11 years in harvesting he needed a new challenge. He loved the forest industry and wanted to move into a managerial or planning role within it. Todd decided to ‘bite the bullet’ and commit to two-and-a-half years of study on the National Diploma in Forestry programme at Waiariki Institute of Technology. He specialised in forest management. “You have to have faith that you can upskill even at an older age and Waiariki provided an ideal learning environment for me”. He found he thrived on the learning experience and assignment workload and graduated the top student of his year with Distinction. Todd’s experience and qualifications enabled him to get his forestry position with Pan Pac. Now he is involved in planning harvesting, and liaising with harvesting and roading crews, plus regulatory bodies such as councils, The Historic Places Trust, Department of Conservation and Transit NZ. |
