Global Positioning Systems

The GPS course is a mix of both practical and theory designed to show the correct use of handheld GPS.

There are no expectations of participants having any existing knowledge about how GPS and GIS works.

A course book is provided which covers all aspects of the course which is designed to give students an understanding of how to use a small hand held GPS unit and the possible errors from incorrect use of the GPS.

The course includes the use of GPS software as well as up and downloading data (Waypoints and Trackpoints) and the customisation and upload of map to your GPS receiver.

There's an introduction to Map Datum’s and Projections; the GPS network (Satellites etc..) so that participants will understand how the whole System actually works!!

We then carry out practical exercises to -

  • show how the GPS receiver works
  • and upload and download waypoints and trackpoints to and from a GPS. (Gps units can be provided).
