Compulsory CoursesThe aim of this course is to provide students with a basic knowledge and practical aspects of plant tissue culture and its applications in biosecurity, biotechnology, molecular biology, breeding and with micro-organisms. This course provides a foundation platform that underpins the biotechnology discipline. Optional papers (choose 1)The aim of this course is to provide students with knowledge and applied aspects of plant morphogenesis and phytohormones as they relate to plant cell, organ and tissue culture. This course provides practical experience in basic tissue culture skills in organogenesis and embryogenesis. This course aims to provide students with knowledge of New Zealand’s biosecurity guidelines, as they relate to plant imports and exports, with emphasis on the use of tissue culture technologies. The course also enables students to obtain practical experience with MAF Quarantine Level 2 for the importation of plants to New Zealand. The aim of this course is to understand the role of plant biotechnology in the biofuels life-cycle and obtain practical experience with a plant biofuel crop in tissue culture.
