Certificate in Agriculture and Farm Maintenance

Level 3

Includes: National Certificate in Agriculture (Level 2)

Credits 120

1 year full-time, or part-time equivalent

Starts: Semester 1

Rotorua, Taupo, Tokoroa, Whakatane

 This certificate is designed for students wanting to learn and enhance their practical skills in a hands on environment.  The focus of the course is on practice, hands on tasks and being outdoors.  Students will spend time working on a farm using and demonstrating the skills required for employment.

Qualification Details

This certificate provides skills and knowledge related to general farming skills such as pasture production and soils, calculations specific to primary production situations, and general maintenance skills required on the farm.

Content/Subjects Covered

Fencing for the Farm, Farm Maintenance, Rural Hazards and Machinery Maintenance, Livestock Health and Behaviour, Cattle and Dairy Farming, Wool Shed Operations and Lambing, Pastures, Crops and Plants

Graduates will be able to:

Safely use tractors, motorcycles, and all terrain vehicles; carry out the handling and treatment of livestock in a safe manner;
install and repair electric and non-electric fencing; complete basic farm maintenance tasks;
demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specific farming situations

Elective courses:

Any two 15 credit courses available at Waiariki.  Recommended electives: FAID.3001 Workplae First Aid, FROP.3001 Introduction to Chainsaw Safety and Use.
